Isle of Yeu

For this 100% discovery day, we take you to the island of Yeu, one of the most beautiful places on the Atlantic coast. A real jewel polished by time, this island with its incredible charm will not fail to dazzle you. It is quite simply an appointment not to be missed during your visit to the Vendée. Believe us, you will leave enchanted, with stars in your eyes!

Before mentioning the treasures of the island, some practical information is in order...

To get there, you will have to take the boat (even if a more expensive option by helicopter is possible).

Head for the port of Fromentine. Several paying car parks are at your disposal.

Several companies offer shipping services.

Below you will find for example the tariffs of the company Yeu Continent to give you a precise idea of the price to pay to reach paradise.

Duration of the crossing: 30 minutes during which you will be able to taste the pleasure of breaking the waves and feel the ocean spray caressing your face.

Stop off at the port of La Meule, for example...

This small harbour, which has retained its natural character, will dazzle you during your walk. Take a leisurely stroll and enjoy this wild and quiet cove.

The old castle

Head straight to the island's Old Castle. Dating back to the Hundred Years War, this fortress houses the secrets of yesteryear. It has withstood the various historical events that have passed through here. Let us guide you on this visit!

Guided tours are organised from April to September.

In April, May, June and September you can attend on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.30, 15.30 or 16.30 hrs and on Sundays 3 tours are also scheduled. In the high season, i.e. in July and August, tours are available every day at 11.00, 11.30, 12.00, 16.30, 17.00 and 17.30. Alternatively, you can choose to visit independently in summer, from 1.30 to 4pm.

Prices: 6 € for an adult, 2 € for 7-18 year olds and free for children under 7.

Finally, head back to Port Joinville. And while waiting for your boat to return to the mainland, enjoy a last drink on the island. You can for example choose the Equateur, very well rated by passers-by, or L'escadrille.

Once there...

We advise you to rent bicycles to get around and visit the island.

In our opinion, this is the most appropriate option, but if it doesn't suit you, don't worry, there are many alternatives (scooters, mehari, etc.).

Good to know: Remember to anticipate the reservation of your bicycles because in summer they are the stars, and believe us, they are prized.

Finally ready!

Grab your bike, your backpack and your picnic, we're off to tour the island!

This memorable ride around the island will add 14 kilometres to your mileage.

Although this is a classic tour with no major difficulties, especially in terms of height difference, the wind at times can make it difficult for young children and the less athletic among you. Nevertheless, it takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete the loop, including a few well-deserved breaks on the way.

NB: don't hesitate to ask about the options that exist to split the route and make it more accessible.

During your walk, be prepared to be disoriented by this rocky island and offer yourself a moment of pleasure and freedom. Among the various landscapes it has to offer, discover the fauna and flora as you have never seen them before. Between wild beaches, natural creeks, rocks, flowery villages, escape!

There are still some must-sees during your day, in any order you like!

First of all, you will find various beaches on your walk.

  • for fine sand, a bit of wilderness and rocks: La Pulante and La Gournaise beaches are waiting for you.
  • for a golden sandy beach with clear and natural water, the beaches on the east coast are ideal: the Marais Salé beach, the Sapins beach or the Soux cove.

In addition to the beaches, other places and monuments are waiting to tell you their story.
